Tuesday Truth or Dare: It's a "Just" Thing

It's a Just Thing

Truth: Do you find yourself saying: "Hi, it's just me calling"?  or "I just work over there in that shop"? or "I'm just a volunteer here" or "It's just mom/dad phoning"
Just = not important, apologetic for wasting your time, I'm not anyone special, my choices are less than, not worthy of any attention, someone to be ignored.
Just = self-confidence in the toilet!  Flushed away with the other shit.  Yes, that's what you do to your self-esteem and your value when you use "just" to describe yourself, your work, your home, or career choice.
When You Say "JUST" You Are Committing an Injustice to Yourself!

Dare: Stop Justing All Over Yourself! Stop diminishing your self-worth right now.  Introduce yourself as you.  Now you are speaking highly of yourself and that builds self-esteem, confidence and projects your personal value.
You are valuable.  You are unique.  You are worthy of a proper introduction.
Stand Up For Yourself!
Choose You.

7 day Challenge:

Wake Up and Smile!

Listen for Your "Justs" and note
how & when you use it

Practice introducing yourself:
Hi, It's Mom or
Hi, I'm Susan and I'm a volunteer here

Be proud of you and your individuality -
 that's what makes you authentic

Break Up with Just

Make it a Great Day!

3 Bold Steps to Kick-Start Healing After a Toxic Relationship

When I first left my abuser, I was obsessed and I mean obsessed, with finding the reason why he did what he did.  I had rationalized that if I discovered what was wrong with him, I could move on and get started on living my life again.

I spent a great deal of my life analyzing his behaviour and developing varied and compelling diagnoses.  With every diagnosis, I had lists of supporting evidence.

I had all sorts of them:  Narcissist, Middle Child Syndrome, Toxic Parents, Anger Management, Alcohol Abuse, and so on

But every diagnosis, only offered fleeting happiness.  I would celebrate what I thought was the perfect reason only to realize that it did not heal my hurt or my heart or my life.  I continued to feel hurt and lonely and lost.

It wasn't until I realized that not one of the "labels" that I was giving him was going to change a damn thing.  It really didn't matter if he was a narcissist or had nasty parents.  The bottom line: He was a fu*king class A dick. Period.

He hurt me because he could and because he wanted to.

No fancy labels needed!

Once I stopped analyzing him, I was able to focus on me, my life, and my healing.  That moment was the beginning of my Healing Journey.  It was the moment I stepped into being a Victor!

I focused on these 3 Bold Steps:

Step One: Acceptance

This is a big, healing step.  It's time to own that it happened.  It just happened.  It was awful and painful and hurtful but it represents something that happened in your life that will ultimately shape you and create a better version of you.

Hot Tip: Give it a Name.  I call my period of abuse "The Incident".  When I speak with people, I can simply state when The Incident happened or after The Incident.  A generic name immediately diminishes any power your past has over your present and future.

Step Two: Looking Inward

Now you have time to take a close look at what you want and need in your life.  Take the time to really dive deep into your feelings and values:  What makes you smile.  What makes you feel happy. Where do you see yourself in one-year.  Two-years.  What do need in a partner.  What are your values - honesty, freedom, spirituality, humour, intelligence and so on.

Hot Tip: Dive Deep & Take Your Time.  What you value in life and what is acceptable and not acceptable is so very important to your future peace and happiness.  Take all the time you need to dive deep into your needs and wants.  Review.  Revise.  Release the ones that don't feel good.

Step Three: Putting Me First

You are the most valuable player in your life.  Your well being, needs, wants, desires and passions come first.  Push back - but what about so-and-so, or my kids, or my job?  Yes, they are important but if you do not put yourself first, your mental, physical, and emotional health will quickly deteriorate and you will be of little value to anyone including yourself!

Hot Tip:  Do One Thing Every Day That is Just for You.  One thing is all that is needed.  It can be for five minutes, one-hour, or an entire evening.  That's your choice each day.  Have a quiet tea or coffee without interruption.  Read a chapter.  Chat on the phone with a happy friend.  Be creative.  Take a walk.  Go skating.

One Simple Pleasure per Day will Improve Your Mood, Your Health, and Your Relationships!

True Gratitude Includes the Ugly Events

It is Thanksgiving in Canada and as we all reflect on what we are grateful for, it's natural to come up with the good ones first - food, family, friends, health, job, etc.

But what about the ugly events in your life that changed you?  Are you grateful you were fired from your job?  Or your lover dumped you? Or ............. fill in the blank?

The ugly ones are the events that make the biggest and most profound changes in our lives.  Yet, they are overlooked when we practice gratitude.

For me, I can look back at the abusive incident my life and I'm grateful for the lessons I learned and in some ways, I'm grateful it happened.

That may sound crazy but it's not.  When that happened and my world fell apart, I had no choice but to rebuild and start over and that's what I'm grateful for because I was forced to look inside for what I wanted in my life.  What felt authentic to me.  What I had left behind that I wanted to reclaim.  How I got sucked into his passions at the expense of my own.

These were life-changing questions and when I dedicated time and energy to answering them in my voice, I discovered who I am and what I wanted in Life.  I found the confidence to move forward into my unstoppable life.

The Ugly Events are the most important moments in our life.  They are the ones that make us pause and think about our own passions and desires.

A little Ugly Events Challenge for Thanksgiving:

  • Sit quietly with a cup of tea (or whatever you desire!) and think back to the big, ugly events in your life.
  • Write them down and then reflect on what has changed for the better since that day
    • Fired but started your own business - gratitude
    • Dumped but became clear on what values & attributes your life-partner will have - gratitude
    • Dumped but took the time to fall in love with yourself - gratitude
    • Totaled the car but got enough insurance money to buy a vintage convertible - gratitude
  • For each Ugly Event, write down one significant positive change in your Gratitude Journal
    • I am Grateful for the opportunity to start my own business
  • Once every month, spend time reflecting on the Ugly Events and writing down one positive change that happened that you are now grateful for
Get Cozy with Your Ugly Events Because They are the Magical Ones

Happy Thanksgiving!

Tuesday Truth or Dare: It's a "Someday" Thing

Truth: People who are waiting for someday, will never reach their goals or experience their dreams.  Someday is an excuse not to take action!

When you are sitting back and saying "Someday I will leave my toxic relationship" or "Someday I will travel" or "Someday I will change jobs", you are effectively giving yourself permission to do nothing about your current situation because Someday doesn't exist!  It will never come so you remain stuck in your current and ongoing situation.
When you use "Someday", you're expressing your fear of change and the future.

Dare: Dump Someday from your vocabulary.  It doesn't belong in your life and will only hold you back from living a Big. Bold. Blissful. Life!
Write down one-big bold dream or goal that you want to make a reality. Give it a fabulous, sexy Name.  Now, Make a Date. Choose a specific Day to accomplish your dreamy goal.
Your Dream Goal Has a Name + You Can Look Forward to Your Date Together.
You are Closer to Success than You Ever Were.

7 day Challenge:

Wake Up and Smile!

Put pen to paper & write down your big, juicy,
dreamy goal.

Give it a Fabulous, Sexy Name

Make a date with your dream goal.

Create a bunch of tiny small steps you will take to
achieve your dreamy goal.

Make a date with each tiny step!

Celebrate every successful step you take along your path.

Feel Yourself Moving Toward Your Big Dream!

Make it a Great |Day!

5-Steps to Transform from Victim to Victor

You made a courageous, big, bold decision to leave a toxic relationship and I want to congratulate you for your tenaciousness!

It takes a lot of determination and sometimes a leap of faith to finally say: "That's it, I've had enough. I'm outta here!"

Because of your fabulous decision to ditch your tormentor, you are no longer experiencing that person's daily verbal and emotional assaults. You have stepped into your Freedom and now you have two paths to choose from:

1)  The Path of the Victim:

Wallowing in self-pity, victim, sufferer, depressed, unhappy, blaming, complaining, hopeless

Falling down as victim, wallowing in self-pity,or being a sufferer reverses your big, bold, step.  Once you accept a victim-mentality you spend your precious time looking for someone to blame or complaining in general.

It is a no-win model! There is no value in continuing to focus on the whys, maybes, and what ifs. It is not a healing model.  It’s a model that keeps your tied to your toxic relationship and living in the past.

2) The Path of the Victor:

Survivor, Thriver, Victor, Courageous, Confident, Inspired, Happy, Grateful, Hopeful

Choose the Path of the Victor!
Stepping into life as a Victor and the Creator of Your Own Destiny is empowering, enriching, and lifesaving.  When you're the Victor, you see each step you take in your healing journey as progress. You don't look back or want to find explanations for the past.  You want to experience your life, your way, in the present moment while creating your amazing future.

Life is short.  Sometimes it can be cut even shorter.  When you emerge as a Victor ready to take on the challenge of claiming responsibility for your life and your actions, you don't waste precious time rehashing the past looking for answers because you're way too busy having fun, setting goals, and seeing your future as an adventure of your making.

The victor is not afraid to fail, or feel uncomfortable by the effort required to work hard and succeed.

5-Steps to Transform From Victim to Victor

Step One - Gratitude, Gratitude and More Gratitude

There is always something to be grateful for.  The smallest of things bring me the greatest gratitude. When you are “stuck” or feeling down, gratitude will provide the way out.  Gratitude puts situations into perspective. When we can see the good as well as the bad, it becomes more difficult to complain and stay stuck.  Gratitude focuses our attention on what we have.

Step Two - Let it Go!

What can I release? Let go of?  I bet you're holding on to all kinds of negative junk.  The junk you're holding on to is cluttering your mind and your path forward.  Yeah, that's the truth! The things you hold on to, bear grudges or perhaps feel angry and hurt about cloud your mind and prevent you from being the best you can be.

Step Three - Building Your Relationship with Authentic You

The authentic self is the real, genuine you. It is the you that is buried deep and is the very core of your being. The authentic self is a culmination of all things that are you – knowledge, talents, skills, attitude, and perspective. It isn’t defined by your placement in a family unit or career.

Finding the truth about who you really are and what is important to you takes honesty, awareness, and some time.

Step Four - Get in Front of Your Challenges

It is so easy to get stopped dead in your tracks when you start to think about all the challenges in your path.  In fact, when you overthink your “to do” list, you could give up on your journey and I don’t want you to do that!

Challenges are everywhere in your life.  It’s not the challenge that will keep you stuck, it’s how you handle it.  And the best way to handle challenges is to get out in front of them.

Step Five - Embrace Your Possibilities

One of the most powerful tools anyone can use on a daily basis is Positive Affirmations. Every time you write or say your affirmation, you are reinforcing your new positive belief and overwriting your old negative one.

Kick Your Life up to Thriver = Big, Bold & Ballsy

There are some who say that getting to the level of "survivor" is good enough.  I say no way, not a chance.  Putting your life into "thriver" gear is where you want it to be.

After my experience with an abusive husband, I truly believed that my end-game was to go from victim to survivor and be happy with that.  It was great to be a survivor for a while.  But I felt uninspired.  Something was missing and I was caught asking myself: WOW! I did all that work to get here and now I'm a little bored.

I discovered that I wanted more from life.  I wanted to be more than a survivor, I wanted to Thrive.  I wanted a big, bold, ballsy life where I flourished.

If you have gotten yourself all the way to the level of survivor, then challenge yourself to take your life all the way up to thriver.  You'll be so happy you did.

Survivor versus Thriver

S:  Feels she doesn't deserve nice things & will never have a happy, fulfilling life

T:  She wakes up and feels Gratitude for everything in life.  She knows how to Make it a Great Day!

S:  She has low self-esteem and still has moments where she feels unworthy, guilt or ashamed.

T:  A vibrant woman who sees herself as an inspired, confident, and fabulous person.  She knows that she is worthy of all the happiness, laughter, joy and adventure that is now part of her everyday life.

S:  Her own needs are right at the bottom.  Saying no is almost impossible.  She wants everyone to like her and avoids conflict at all costs.

T:  The thriving woman places herself first because she knows that a happy, nourished self is the best one.

Once you're a thriver, your emotional, mental and physical health will be optimum.  Daily irritations will turn into daily smiles and laughs.  You will enjoy being with people. Equally, you will enjoy your own company and being on your own.

You've already come a long way on your healing journey.  Stretching your goal to thriver is not far-fetched.  It's completely doable.

Being a survivor is only a stepping-stone on your healing journey. Choose to take one more step and push your life into "thriver" gear.

You are so worth it + you deserve it.

Tuesday Truth or Dare: It's a Gossip Thing

Truth:  She is such a bitch!  Look at her outfit can you imagine wearing that!?  My boss is a nasty cheating jerk!  Did you see the way she treated so and so?  She's pregnant again!  How can they afford another child?!

It's all gossip, rumour, innuendo, judgement and it's TOXIC!

Gossiping is toxic to your personal wellbeing and mood.  Gossip causes stress, guilt, uncertainty, anxiety and distrust.  these are not good feelings to have for your day!

Participating in gossip has negative consequences for your emotional, mental and physical health.  Bet you thought it was harmless!

Dare:  Consciously decide that you will not participate in any form of gossip.  You won't start the gossip.  You won't listen to gossip.  You won't engage with gossip.  You will remove yourself from gossipy situations.

Remember:  When you're gossiping about someone, someone else is gossiping about you!

You will begin a Healthy Gossip-Free Lifestyle!

7 day Challenge:

Wake Up and Smile!

I Declare Myself Gossip Free!

Make it a Great |Day!

So, What Are You Going to Do About It?

I have clients who will say to me I want to be like you to which I respond You Can with a little work and authenticity!  There is no magic pill, potion or spell that I can prescribe that will make you get up in the morning with a smile on your face looking forward to the day as an adventure in the making.  The prescription writer is YOU!

Not too long ago I found myself dreading the mornings.  I would wake up thinking yuck, another friggin' day, when will this end, what is the purpose of getting up!  I was dreary to say the least with absolutely no plans for the future and nothing to look forward to.  I was on the cusp of filling my prescription for anti-depressants. I was low and the few friends I had probably hated to hear from me.

I had no money.  I had a dead-end job in a big shiny corporate office.  I squeezed myself into a subway car at a god-awful hour of the morning to be surrounded by miserable looking lemmings.  I had a relationship that had run its course.  I had decided that my present and future would be lonely, broke, and defeated.

Sound Familiar?!?  I'm sure there are folks reading this right now who can relate to how I was feeling about life and you're wondering how did I turn it around.

It started with a good and true friend.  They are the friends who ask you the hard questions.  These are the friends you want.  Tip:  Get rid of the nodders! Nodders are your "pretend" friends - the ones who nod and agree with everything you say.

We were having a coffee and I was doing my usual life is so rotten, I hate my life, blah, blah, blah.  She kept asking me one question:

So, What Are You Going to Do About It?

What a stupid, irritating question!  I was livid.  I wanted her to find the solution for me, NOW!  For some odd reason, my friend wouldn't cooperate and kept asking me that question.  I went home and decided I would not be friends with her anymore which of course, added to my Down on Life Story.

A strange thing was happening though.....I couldn't get that question out of my head!  When I would think about my finances and wanted to wallow in self-pity, this little voice would ask "Well, Susan, what are you going to do about it?"  The question followed me everyday and everywhere. I wanted to answer the question just so it would go away!

Because of my encounter with a true friend, I learned two very important steps to get me on my way to writing a new chapter.  To begin writing yours, complete these steps:
  1. Honestly think about your friends and family and determine who are the "nodders".  Nodders will not help you in your journey.  Drop them from your friends list and replace them with true friends who will ask you to be accountable to you.
  2. When you find yourself feeling down because you're thinking about your debts, or how you will never be able to travel to Australia, or how you will be stuck in your dead-end job forever,
STOP, take a deep breath and ask

"So, ____________, what are you going to do about it?

Remove the nodders and keep asking "what am I going to do about this" and you're on your way to writing a new chapter in your life. Oh, and feeling so much better about all the opporuntities that are waiting for you!

4-Steps to Breaking Up With Your Limiting Beliefs

Limiting beliefs zap your energy and keep you stuck by telling you over and over again that you can't achieve your goals or that you're not worthy of acceptance and success.

The Top Ten Limiting Beliefs are:
  • I'm too selfish/loud/shy
  • I'm a bad.... (eg I'm a bad parent/friend/son)
  • I will never be successful
  • There is never enough money (or money doesn't grow on trees)
  • It's too late for me to.... (change my career etc)
  • I will never....(be successful, find love, travel etc)
  • I always disappoint people
  • I am not pretty/slim/clever enough
  • I'm not good enough/I don't deserve...(happiness success, wealth, love)
  • "I can't do it!"

In many cases, limiting beliefs are perceived as facts.  Beliefs are not facts.  Beliefs are your perception of the truth and perceptions can be changed.

Signs and symptoms of hidden Limiting Beliefs:
  • You have negative thoughts or feelings more often than not
  • Negative patterns keep repeating themselves - money problems, relationship problems, feelings of despair
Breaking up with your limiting beliefs
is the first step to a Baggage-Free Life.
Tweet This

The 4-Step Break-Up

Step One - Recognize and Acknowledge

Take a look at the top ten limiting beliefs list (top of post) and write down any that sound familiar to you.  Take a look at your list and jot down ways they are negatively impacting your life - money, relationships, career, goals.

Now that you have identified your personal limiting beliefs and acknowledged how they impact your life, it's time to change them.  Think of your limiting beliefs as your subconscious blueprint and blueprints can be changed so they reflect what you really want!

Step Two - It's Just Not True!

In fact, you need to recognize your limiting beliefs for the liars they are.  Then you will see that you can edit or completely delete your limiting beliefs.

Say to yourself, "it's possible that I believe some things about myself and the world around me that are not true."

Great!  You have successfully opened the door to let your new belief in.

Step Three - Everything is Replaceable

Time to replace the old negative limiting belief with a positive new enabling belief.

If you want to create permanent change, you can't just get rid of the old mental pattern, you have to replace it with a completely new one that will take its place.

Use positive words that focus your brain on possibility!

I Am - I Can - I Will - I Choose - I Am Willing To - My Potential

There is never enough money turns to:

I Choose to Improve My Finances

It's impossible for me to be happy changes to:

I Allow Myself to be Happy

Say your new positive enabling belief out loud.  Does it feel true for you?  Not quite..change it until it feels fabulous.

When you say it, you want to feel confident and ready to move forward with a positive mindset.

Step Four - Repetition and Reinforcement

Positive affirmations work by reprogramming your thinking to believe that what you want is possible, attainable, and already happening.

My personal favourite affirmations are:

Every Day in Every Way, I'm Getting Better and Better
I Will Enjoy Every Minute of Every Day
I Am at Peace With My Decisions

I repeat these 3 times every morning before I get out of bed.

Write them down, say them out loud, sing them in the shower, know them off by heart so you can call upon them in a moment of self-doubt.

These are your new Positive Enabling Beliefs - Live Them!

Your Most Important Valentine is You!

Valentine's Day is tomorrow and there is much talk and attention paid to our significant other or a special someone in your life.  And that's great, but what about you?

How do you treat yourself?  How do you talk about yourself?  Are you focused on the negative?  Are you extremely critical of what you do?  Or what you look like?  Do you compare yourself to others?

Do you realize that you spend 100% of your time with you?  If you aren't in love with your amazing self, then your time together can be pretty sad.

Wouldn't you rather spend time with someone who is supportive and appreciates just have awesome you are, warts and all?

Of course you do.  This Valentine's Day fall in love with your amazing, audacious, gorgeous, unique, and wonderful self.

It's impossible to truly love those around you and your life if you can't love yourself.  So let's spread love all around you!

Step 1 - Stop all your nasty, mean-spirited self-talk!  Would you talk to a person you love the way you talk to yourself?  No.  Change your script.  Use uplifting and encouraging words.  Be your own best friend.

Step 2 - Embrace and Love Your Weaknesses - yup, we all have them.  When we love another person we accept them just the way they are.  We love their flaws and quirks.  Do that for yourself.

Step 3 - Put Yourself on a Pedestal - you are spectacular and it's time to rise up and recognize all that you are because you're amazing.

Step 4 - Treat Yourself with Kindness & Love - Say No to others so you'll have more time to say Yes to You.  Accept compliments with a simple thank-you.

Step 5 - Celebrate You, Your Accomplishments, Your Value, Your Abilities and Your Gratitude.

Step 6 - Look in the mirror and say "I Love You, flaws and all".  Repeat frequently and with passion.

Fall in love with yourself.  Be your best friend.  Speak words of kindness and encouragement to yourself.  Be your Valentine.

P.S. - My new website and jam-packed coaching programs will be launching soon.  Sign up for my Newsletter  (old dreary website) and get all the amazing details about my Free Monthly Group Coaching Calls.  Next Call is February 18th.

Do This Daily for Maximum Impact

Each and every day gives you a new opportunity to make a positive change in your life.

It's impossible to live a positive baggage-free life when you are stuck in your negative mindset.

Change your attitude and you'll change your life for the better.  Your mental, physical and spiritual health will improve dramatically.  Let's get positive!

Start with your attitude shifting goal.   Start your goal with "I Want"
  • to live with less stress
  • to have more "me" time
  • to let go of my junk filled past
  • to improve my relationships
Write it down and give it a due date.  A comfortable due date works best.

Look at your goal and imagine yourself living it.  Are you happier?  Are you less stressed?  Have you added personal space and time?

What changes can you make every day to achieve your goal?

Write them down.  Are they doable?  You want your changes to be small bite-sized pieces.

Commit to one small daily positive change.  It can be as simple as

I will smile and say Good Morning to the coffee shop clerk or the bus driver or the office receptionist or people I pass on the street

I will commit to adding meditation to my day.

I will work on my letting it go skills!

I will take the time each day to count my blessings

I will............

Do it every day for one week. You will notice that your small change is now just a natural part of your day and you'll smile because you did it.

Now you can add a new positive change and keep building and growing.  Small and steady wins the race.

Wake Up   *   Smile   *   Make a Positive Change   *  Repeat
