Tuesday Truth or Dare: It's a "Just" Thing

It's a Just Thing

Truth: Do you find yourself saying: "Hi, it's just me calling"?  or "I just work over there in that shop"? or "I'm just a volunteer here" or "It's just mom/dad phoning"
Just = not important, apologetic for wasting your time, I'm not anyone special, my choices are less than, not worthy of any attention, someone to be ignored.
Just = self-confidence in the toilet!  Flushed away with the other shit.  Yes, that's what you do to your self-esteem and your value when you use "just" to describe yourself, your work, your home, or career choice.
When You Say "JUST" You Are Committing an Injustice to Yourself!

Dare: Stop Justing All Over Yourself! Stop diminishing your self-worth right now.  Introduce yourself as you.  Now you are speaking highly of yourself and that builds self-esteem, confidence and projects your personal value.
You are valuable.  You are unique.  You are worthy of a proper introduction.
Stand Up For Yourself!
Choose You.

7 day Challenge:

Wake Up and Smile!

Listen for Your "Justs" and note
how & when you use it

Practice introducing yourself:
Hi, It's Mom or
Hi, I'm Susan and I'm a volunteer here

Be proud of you and your individuality -
 that's what makes you authentic

Break Up with Just

Make it a Great Day!

Tuesday Truth or Dare: It's a Magic Thing

Truth:  Sadly, the vast majority of us spend our days living in our "comfort zone".  We get up in the morning go to work, do as we're asked, go home using the same route, stop at the same grocery store to pick up dinner, get home, eat supper, watch tv and go to bed.  Next morning we repeat the same routine.  It's all ho-hum routine.

We dream about something, anything different.  Travel.  Being self-employed.  Going to the theatre. Taking a class.  Doing improv.  Signing up to act in the next community theatre production.  Bungy jump.  Sky dive.  Drive a monster truck.

You dream, you wish, you want but nothing changes.

Dare:  Wake up each and every day and choose to do something outside of your comfort zone.  It can be a small simple step in to the magic zone.  That's okay.  Just do it!

Choose something for supper you have never cooked before and then do it.  If it tastes terrible, smile, laugh, learn and make a peanut butter sandwich.  Nothing has been lost and everything has been gained.

You have shown yourself that you are ready to step out your comfort zone and embrace the true magic of your life.

7 day Challenge:

Wake Up and Smile!

Decide to step out of your comfort zone

Do It!

Celebrate your ballsy spirit!

Make it a Great |Day!

Compliments - Take One and Then Pass It On

When was the last time you gave yourself a compliment?  Probably never.  Well, maybe a few times sarcastically!

Mostly, we spend our time "wishing" that someone, anyone would notice and then give us a compliment.  You know those little words of encouragement that we crave.

Waiting and wishing and hoping that someone will notice you and give you a compliment, causes your self-esteem and self-worth to plummet.

Essentially, you're relying on others to define your worth and make you feel special and that's a losing battle.

The time has come for you to rely on you for daily compliments.

Yup, you are going to give yourself compliments
each and every day!

When you finish a task including washing the kitchen floor, take a second to tell yourself "Great Job!".  After you get dressed, look in the mirror and say "I'm rocking this outfit!".

Daily compliments have a trickle effect on your confidence, self-worth and self-esteem.  And before you know it all those trickles add up and you have built yourself a fantastic river of confidence.

Once you have a beautiful, flowing river of self-worth, it becomes next to impossible for anyone to divert your course.

Self-Worth - Self-Esteem - Confidence can be easily built when you add compliments to your daily life.

Stop looking to others to build you up because it won't happen.

Start your own "I Will Give Myself a Daily Compliment" practice.

Oh, please take your compliment and then pass a compliment on to someone else.

I Am, I Can, I Will - Shift Happens with Small Words

The lack of self-confidence is the most popular reason that clients seek my help.  Not having self-confidence impacts every aspect of your life:

  • How you react to negative people
  • Whether or not you change careers
  • Go back to school
  • Leave a negative relationship
  • Stand up for your authenticity and joy and happiness
  • Actively participate in events, sports and with friends

Your self-confidence is your foundation and you build your life, success, happiness and pure joy on it.  If you foundation has weak spots, your ability to let go, chase your dreams and find pure joy in living, is significantly diminished!

To begin repairing your foundation, add these empowering statements to your daily routine:

Every day, twice a day, write empowering statements that begin with I am, I Can, and I Will.  I recommend doing this in the morning and just before bed.

These may seem like very simple statements but their impact on your confidence will be complex.

While you are writing your empowering statements, you are discovering all the great things about you.  And that will change your view of you and your life.  Start today and notice the shift.

Here are mine from this morning:

I Am Grateful * I Can Write * I Will Start Today

It's Monday, Be Awesome

So many people lament Monday.  Some even start on Sunday!

Think about how you set your mood for the day and the entire week when you begin with hating on something including the day of the week!

I hate Mondays does not generate good vibrations or open your senses and spirit to all the good, awesomeness around you.  It simply causes you to hunch your shoulders, lower your eyes to the ground, and see negativity in your space.

What an ugly way to spend the day.  No Thanks!!!

So let's be awesome on Mondays.  It will change your perspective which will change your outcome which will cause you to smile and be grateful.

Monday is a wonderful day.  It truly is.  Look forward to every day and you will feel so much better.

Happiness is an attitude and gratitude begins with a smile.

Cheers, Susan

Choose Gratitude

A grateful heart is a happy heart.  It's so easy to take things for granted:  the information your coworker sent you the fact that your car is running, and even the food you're eating for dinner.  The fact is, most of us have gotten into the habit of ignoring all of the good things in our lives.  Instead, we focus our mental and emotional energy on being upset about what's wrong and what we don't have.  Yes, cultivating an "attitude of gratitude" might sound cliche, but it is important to your overall health and well-being.  Studies have actually shown that thankful individuals are 25% healthier than their counterparts!  To start tapping into the power of gratitude, simply say "thanks" to the people who help you or smile at you or offer a compliment throughout your day.

Action Step - Find a wide-mouth jar with a lid and each day write down a single "I'm grateful for _____" statement.  Fold it and place in the jar.  At the end of the week, month or year, empty your jar and read all the things you have to be grateful for.  You will be pleasantly surprised!

Choose Gratitude as Your Attitude

It's Okay to Say "NO"

It's not always easy to say "no" to requests, especially when doing so leaves you feeling guilty or feeling you should have said "yes". You may also believe that there are some family situations where "no" is not an option.

Yet to balance self-care it's essential to give yourself the freedom to say "no" to requests that do not serve you. Family responsibilities have their place but too often they become misplaced – running your life at the expense of your own health and well-being.

Saying "no" takes courage and practice.

A simple way to give you time to consider a request is by having a response ready when a request is made, such as:

"I need to check my other commitments."

"I need to check to see if it interferes with plans (my spouse and) I have made."

Alternatively, if you are willing to participate to some degree, counter-offer:

"No, I can’t commit to _______ but I can do __________ (counter-offer)."

If you are clear that the answer is "no" say so:
"Thank you for thinking of me, but no, not at this time."

  Self-Care Exercise

Create a variety of ready responses to requests that have happened in the past or you’re sure will happen soon.  Practice, Practice, Practice!!!  When a request is made, choose a “ready response” – and feel confident when delivering your response.

When you reflect on a request, ask yourself:

• Will this request serve me?
• Will it contribute to me and my life?
• Is my inner-wisdom or gut feeling a "yes" or a "no"?

If you answer "no" to the above questions, honour your inner guidance and say "no" to the request. If you wish, make a suggestion on who might be available to do the job instead.

You will know you are Living Authentically when you can say "no"
without feeling guilty!

You can do it - Say No

Confidence Boosting

Confidence is a tool you can use in your everyday life to do all kinds of cool stuff, not least to stop second-guessing yourself, manage your fears and become able to do more of the things that really matter to you.  But not many people realize that their self-confidence works just like  muscle - it grows in response to the level of performance required of it.  Either you use it or you lose it.

Confidence Boosting Tips:

Write a list of the things you’re tolerating and putting up with in your life, then write down how you can remove, minimize or diminish each one.

Get crystal clear on the things that truly matter to you.
If they’re not in your life, you need to bring them in

Stop playing different roles and squeezing yourself into boxes based on what you think people expect you to act like.

Learn to catch yourself every single time you tell yourself that you can’t have, won’t get or aren't good enough to get what you want.

Take yourself off auto-pilot – make deliberate decisions on what really matters to you.

You've got a whole bunch of out-dated rules that determine what you do, don’t do, should do and shouldn't do.  These rules limit your thinking and limit your behaviour.  Tear up your rule book and notice how free you are to make great decisions.

When you feel like stamping your foot and yelling “I deserve better than this!”, take a step back and say
I can BE better than this.

Take a chance on something tomorrow.
Anything, big or small, just take a chance.

You need to be around people who make you feel like YOU, so spend more time with the people who support and encourage you and less with those who undermine you.

Keep comparing yourself to others?  Stop it
You’re just fantastic as you are

If there’s something you've been struggling to understand for a while, stop trying to understand it.  Accept it just as it is, fully and wholly.

Don’t say “Yes” to taking on a task simply because you don’t want to rock the boat – you can politely decline requests you can’t meet and don’t need to create an excuse for it.

Still beating yourself up for failing or screwing up? It might not be a barrel of laughs but it’s not going to help you get through it.  Much better to recognize that everything, whether it turns out or not, is how you practice living a rich life
*****
Do one thing each day that makes you smile

Do it Differently - Choose & Want It!

That's How Happy People Do It!

When was the last time you did something different?  Oh, it could be anything like a new route to work or watching a movie outside your comfort zone or joining a group to discuss books, politics, current events or wellness.

What stops you?

Age?  Inspiration?  Confidence?  Family?  Time?   Money?   These are the common excuses used when I ask this question.  I'm sure you're familiar with all of them.

What if I told you the real reason that you have stopped doing it different, is an over-abundance of "shoulds" and "oughts" and "musts" in your everyday thoughts and language.

Let's start with Should and Ought and Must - my least favourite words and the first ones I get my clients to abandon.  Yup, I want should and ought and must left in the rain in an alley somewhere - gone, forgotten, abandoned!

When you use the word "should", your body language actually changes - your shoulders hunch forward and you slouch.  Slouching closes off your breathing and as a result you start a pattern of shallow breathing instead of healthy deep breathing.

Next comes that uneasy feeling - stress, anxiety, and guilt.  And the final feeling is one of resentment when you do complete the "should" or "ought"  or "must" task.

That's a lot of negative pattern behaviour because of three little over-used words.  You know a negative mood swing is about to hit you when you hear the words "should" or "shouldn't", "must" or "mustn't", "ought" or "ought not".

These patterns of speech and our negative reactions go back to some authoritarian figure, a parent, a teacher, a neighbour, or a respected elder.  How many times did you hear "You should be doing your homework" and did you jump up off the couch with a smile on your face and go do your homework?  No, you slouched off the couch, probably put up a bit of an argument, and then went to your room, shut the door and maybe did your homework = Stress, Anxiety, Guilt and Resentment!

When you hear yourself using should, ought or must, challenge yourself by asking these easy questions:

What other choices do I have?  What would happen if I didn’t do it?

Or these questions for "shouldn't":

If you say, for example, "I shouldn't spend money on this", ask, Why shouldn't I spend money on this?  What would happen if I did?  What would happen if I didn't?

Once you've answered the questions, you will know whether you "want" to complete the task, favour, or purchase and you will feel satisfied and happy with your decision.

When Should, Must and Ought shift to Want and Choose, you will feel that you have made the decision that you want to make and move forward towards completing the task in a light and positive manner.  And when that happens, you will feel so much better!  MOST IMPORTANT – if you choose do perform the should request you are now doing because you want to and from a position of power

Choose to it Differently by Questioning Should and Answering with Want!

F.L.Y.

First Love Yourself!

You are the most important person in your life.  Think about - who's the only one guaranteed to be with you from the beginning to the end?

It's February the month of Love and I haven't seen any cards that say:  "To Me, I Love You!!"  "Hey You, You're Fabulous, Love Me xox"

Wouldn't it be great if we made our own "I Love You" cards.  It could be done once a year or every month or every day.  You would use all your amazing creative talent and write your own love letter to yourself  and then take pride in your accomplishment.

I wanted to add a note of levity to what is in fact a sometimes difficult journey - the path to loving and appreciating you for you will be bumpy and steep and so worth it when you reach your destination.

Follow these Simple Daily Practices to Begin Your Journey

Forgive yourself for past misdeeds.  There is no way to go back and change what you did or what you said.  Carrying it around like a ball and chain is a waste of valuable "you in the present moment" time.

Do Something Every Single Day that Makes YOU Feel Good!

Each Day, throughout the day, say to yourself silently or out loud:

"I love and accept myself exactly as I am."

When you hear critical self-talk and thoughts, silently shout "STOP" and then replace them with words of appreciation for yourself.

Use "I Am", "I Can" and "I Will" to describe yourself, your actions and your dreams.

Practice laughing at you when you make a mistake!

Baby, It's Cold Outside

Welcome to winter in Canada.  We are experiencing a blast of arctic air that is set to stay with us for the next 10 days!  I may be proudly Canadian but these cold blasts can be miserable!

That being said, the cold snap got me thinking about my goals for the future.  Oh, I have several and I'm a firm believer in setting goals for your life, career, business, relationships and health.  Small goals that are easy to achieve and celebrate are my favourites.  Each day I celebrate a goal that I successfully completed.

Larger goals are wonderful but if you forget to create an action plan to achieve your big dream type goal you will begin to feel discouraged.  This may lead to giving up on your dreamy goal.

Today, I was looking out my picture window and I started to daydream and a new dreamy goal came to my mind.  My new goal - Every Winter I Will Spend a Minimum of 3-Weeks in a Hot, Hot, Tropical Climate.  Fabulous goal and I want it to be successful so I set about creating an action plan.  I will be in Costa Rica or other tropical paradise from January 22, 2014 to February 15, 2014....period.

My action plan created the steps I want to take to make my goal a reality.  First, finances - how much will I want?  I divided that amount by 52.  So much easier to look at dollar values when they are small and it makes it doable!

Second, what do I want to change in my business to ensure the extra funds are available.  I set about writing action steps to increase my income.

Third, hubby.  Okay, he pretty much loves whatever I plan so I'm good there.

Done!!  I set a goal and developed the action steps to make it a reality.  As a bonus, I created new and fantastic action steps to grow my business.

The benefits of Goal Setting and Creating an Action Plan are enormous.

So, get out your pen and paper, start daydreaming, jot down notes.  Dream big and choose one to make a reality.  You will have a new sense of accomplishment, confidence and an event in your future to look forward to.  How great is that!

Your Confidence Diary

A great way to boost your confidence is to keep a confidence diary.

It is a smart tool to just remind yourself just how good you really are and what you have to be thankful for and pleased about in your life right now.

Either buy yourself a notebook or a day to view diary and once a week for the next month I’d like you to jot down your answers to the following confidence questions.

Don’t give me any excuses about you haven’t got the time to do it!

Take just 10 minutes per week, sit down and jot down your thoughts to:

1.   What have I got to be grateful for in my life right now?

2.   What am I happy about in my life right now?

3.   Why am I happy about these things?

4.   What did I accomplish last week?

5.   What am I excited about in my life right now?

6.   Who do I love and appreciate in my life? Who do I like hanging around? Why?

7.   Who loves and appreciates me for what I am? Warts ‘n all!

Answer these questions at the start of each week and it will set you up for success.

If you need a booster midweek, then by all means answer them again whenever you want to feel centred and remind yourself of what you have got going for yourself in your life right now.

In addition, do this NLP Confidence Boosting Exercise...do it everyday and you will instantly notice a new you with a positive focus on you!

When you approach your life confidently, you will make every day a Great Day and translate your outstanding individual potential into great success!

You are amazing - your life is filled with joy - Enjoy Every Minute!

I Love Me

Marvelous Monday!

A perfect day to look at yourself with love and admiration.

That feeling will follow you for the rest of the week!

Your 3-Step Plan to Overcoming Limiting Beliefs

Now that you have identified your personal limiting beliefs (April 15th post), it's time to change them.  Think of your limiting beliefs as your subconscious blueprint and blueprints can be changed so they reflect what you really want!

The first step is to understand what a limiting belief is and that it may not be true.

Just say to yourself, "it's possible that I believe some things about myself and the world around me that are not true."

Great!  You have successfully opened the door to let your new belief in.

The second step is really important:

Replace the old belief with a positive new one.

If you want to create permanent behaviour change, you can't just get rid of the old mental pattern, you have to replace it with a completely new one that will take its place.

You want to create a new path, create new tracks, otherwise the old one can come back.

The final step is repetition and reinforcement through affirmation.

The most powerful affirmations are worded to be immediate and personal.  Adding a phrase like 'quickly and easily' to the beginning or end of each affirmation helps to lift the pressure of having to 'make things happen.'

My personal favourite affirmations are:

Every Day in Every Way, I'm Getting Better and Better

My monthly income exceeds my monthly expenses quickly and easily

I repeat these 3 times every morning before I get out of bed to enjoy my day.

The primary way to get a new pattern into the unconscious part of your mind is through reinforcement and repetition.  Positive affirmations work by reprogramming your thinking and beliefs.  The way to get effective results is with constant repetition.

Affirmations train your subconscious to believe that what you want is possible, attainable, and already happening.

Words are your most powerful tool - they can bring pain or happiness, forgiveness or anger/hatred.  You generate your own emotions through your choice of words.  Make sure that the words you tell yourself are helping you follow your dreams and your heart.

My Success Recommendation:

write down your goals with corresponding success beliefs in the form of affirmations
 and just keep repeating them.
.

Choose your new belief and then plant the seed through positive affirmations.
