Keep, Edit, Delete, Add: 4 Steps to Being You & Living Authentically

What is Authentically Me?

The authentic self is the real, genuine you. It is the you that is buried deep and is the very core of your being. The authentic self is a culmination of all things that are you – knowledge, talents, skills, attitude, and perspective.

It isn’t defined by your placement in a family unit or career.
Finding the truth about who you really are and what is important to you takes honesty, awareness, and some time.

How Can I Be Authentically Me?

Keep:  These are the things in your life you will prioritize over everything else.  You can and probably will increase them over time.

Questions to find what to keep:

  • What is working in your life?
  • What brings you joy?  Lights you up?
  • What and who lets you be your true self?
  • What is moving you forward towards the life you crave and envision?

Edit:  Some things, people and relationships we love and care about but they just need some tweaking or editing to make them shine.

Questions to find what to edit:

  • Do you want to lessen your time spent on them?
  • Do you feel stress when you think about spending time with a particular person?  Or in a certain situation?
  • Do you crave a new way forward?  In your job? In your relationship?  In your life?
  • What can you edit to bring your roles and commitments into alignment with your values and priorities?

Delete:  The biggest part of living authentically is not being passive about how your life unfolds!  Deleting is the most difficult step but it is also the one that will have the greatest impact on your life moving forward.

Questions to find what to delete:

  • What do you need to let go of?  Make use of the Worksheet to really get to the heart of what needs to go.
  • What is not "you"?
  • What is standing in your way?

Add:  The benefit of having edited or deleted things from your life that were not in alignment with your authentic self and your personal life's vision, is that you have freed up time, energy and resources for things and people that matter to you.

Questions to find what to add:

  • What has been missing from your life?
  • What goals can you add to bring you closer to your authentic self?
  • How can you bring more of the real you into your day-to-day life?
  • How can you add joy and laughter to your everyday life?

Being authentic and living your passionate, amazing life, is about choosing.  You can choose to keep, edit or delete and then you can add all the great stuff that has been missing.  Once you clean up the mess and add the good stuff, you are living authentically.

Living a truly Authentic Life means that you can:

Love yourself  * Forgive yourself  *  Accept yourself  *  Be Good to Yourself

Tuesday Truth or Dare: It's a Compliment Thing

Truth: Wishing and waiting for others to give you a compliment won't make it happen.  Yes, it would be fabulous if your great work or gourmet cooking or volunteer time were acknowledged with a compliment.  But the sad truth is most of our goodness is not recognized even with the simplest of gestures: a compliment.  Lack of compliments damages our self-worth and starts a negative pattern of questioning,  We begin to wonder whether or not we are good enough.

Dare:  Give yourself compliments!   When you finish a task including washing the kitchen floor, take a second to tell yourself "Great Job!".  After you get dressed, look in the mirror and say "I'm rocking this outfit!".  When you donate your stuff to charity or go and walk a shelter dog, pat yourself on the back for your good deed.

7 day Challenge:

Commit to a Daily Compliment just for You!
Commit to Giving Away a Compliment Every Day!
Accept all Compliments with a Gracious Thank You!

My Compliment To You:

You are simply amazing and that's the truth!

Tuesday Truth or Dare: It's a Positive Thing

It's Tuesday! Let's play Truth or Dare

Truth - it is so easy to fall into the habit of using negative words. Negative words about yourself, someone else or life in general. Negativity has the snowball effect. When you roll with it, it grows larger and larger until it's out of control. Before you know it, your whole world is viewed through the lens of negativity.

Dare - use positive words. When you find yourself thinking or saying something negative, STOP, and ask what can I say that is positive. There is always something positive to say about yourself, someone else or your life.

Positivity Challenge - Leave a positively worded comment below. Challenge yourself to use only positive words, change your thoughts, change your words.

I Broke-Up With My Daughter

and I feel free, fabulous and authentic.

It was a difficult relationship and I often felt that my soul was being dug out with a spoon every time we engaged with each other. It was time for a change!

Relationships can be wonderful, loving and mutually beneficial or they can be draining, stress-filled and grossly one-sided.  The relationship with my daughter was the latter.

It was one-sided, demanding, overbearing and she felt no compassion or remorse.  Kind words and gestures were way beyond her scope of understanding.

I hung in for a very long time.  Why?  Simply because there is societal pressure to continue a relationship based on family connection, blood or a specific set of labels.  In our case, our labels were mother and daughter.

I felt more like a doormat and an instant ATM.  My punishment for not behaving as she expected, banishment from my grandsons.  Do it mother or you will not see or speak with them.

The day came when I'd had enough and I was at my lowest point and I decided to break up with my daughter.

The words came easier than I thought they would.  Actually, once I said it, I started to feel amazing and that great feeling has continued to this day.

When you think of your "relationships" and your labels, is there one that you would like to break up with?  Yes, indeed!

Now imagine the peace and tranquility that would invade your being if you sent that person packing?  You feel amazing, calm and look forward to your day and life.

It can be done!  I know I did it and everything about my life has improved.  I will love my daughter forever.  Liking her is a whole other matter and I don't.

Healthy relationships are not defined by labels.

Something Needs to Be Removed

We easily make assumptions about what we want and need. If we detect an area of our lives is far from satisfactory, we assume that we 'need' something to improve it.

Sometimes though, what we actually need is something to be removed.

Before you can gain something you truly need, you want to make space available for it.

After you remove the clutter, you will be free to focus your attention on the new breathing space you have created.

It is your "space" and it is open to whatever you want that will enhance your life and happiness.

Focus on the positive - donate the negative - develop a new perspective - shake off the drag - do something just for you.

Spring into action and sweep out the old dust!  You'll be grateful you did.

Spring Clean Your Life Workshop on April 24 will quick start your cleaning.
