Turn Resolutions to Accomplishments

New Year's "Accomplishments"

Oh, those pesky New Year's Resolutions, restrictive, untamed and with a big chunk of hope thrown in for fun. 99% of resolutions fail. Not a good statistic, I know and there are great reasons for the high failure rate.
  • New Year's Resolutions are TOO BIG to handle for one person even if you believe you have gobs of will power.
  • TOO MANY to Handle! Really, you're gonna lose 50 lbs by February 1st, quit smoking, stop drinking and be a nicer person all in one go?
  • The resolution is worded Passively and Negatively. Surprise! I want to quit smoking; I want to lose weight; I want to blah, blah, blah.
Turn your New Year's Resolutions into New Year's Accomplishments!

Follow these simple tips and you'll be on the path to celebrating your Accomplishments before you can say Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious backwards!!
  • Chunk it Down and Add Some Fun. Take the time to reflect on the one change you will make this year - Will you quit smoking? Will you eat more fruit & veggies? Will you travel? Will you enjoy every day? Will you dance in the street weekly on Thursdays?
  • Pick One, Only One. Now you're focused on one change that you will achieve in 2013. Smile! You have taken the first step on your journey to success.
  • Start with small steps to success. Today I will include one healthy vegetable side dish with dinner
  • Smile even when faced with a challenge and make it a great day
  • Replace soda with water
  • Lace up my running shoes and walk for 10 minutes
  • Change your language to be pro-active and positive - state your change in "I will, I can and I am". Saying you "want" to do something is wishy-washy and opens the door to the million excuses you're going to give when you don't succeed
Small step changes are realistic and manageable. Write your Statement of Success. Celebrate your successes every day. Your result will be a happy, healthier life where you congratulate yourself for meaningful successes rather than berate yourself for failure.
Here is my statement of success for 2013!

I am a nature lover and I will plan my days off to include enjoying the natural environment while relaxing and reflecting on my personal and career successes. I will wake up every day, smile and look forward to a new day with a sense of curiosity and adventure.

Happy New Year!!

Positivity is a Choice - You Choose It & You Create It

Positive Thoughts

are the way to deliberately attract what you want in life. When you choose to replace negative thoughts with positive thoughts, you will change yourself into a powerful magnet that attracts goodness, joy and abundance. You will discover greater happiness and the ability to focus on your potential and possibilities.

Your life right now is the result of everything you have done, believed, thought or felt up until this moment. You can start to consciously attract whatever you desire today and in your lifetime. Waking up and saying "I choose to make today a great day" will be your greatest achievement. You are always in the process of attracting something into your life - choose to make the attraction positive.

Here are 8 Changes that will add positivity to your everyday life:
  1. Take the word "never" out of your vocabulary otherwise it will become your destiny! Simply put if you believe that you will "never" accomplish, do or be, then that is exactly what will happen. Look what happens when you delete "never" - I will never travel to Europe changes to I will travel to Europe - let the planning begin!
  2. Stop "trying" and Start "doing" - to use the word try is to give youself the ability to fail. You can say you're going to "try": to change something about yourself or your life or you can simply do it. Take small action steps every day toward achieving your goal or desired change.
  3. Smile. Smile. Smile. Smiling releases endorphins, little happy hormones that instantly change your mood and outlook to happy. How easy is that?
  4. Surround yourself with Positive People. Negative people are a downer, plain and simple. We all know them but do we really want to keep them around? When you surround yourself with positive people, you create a circle of smiling, laughter, and good times living in the present.
  5. Stop being a victim - You create your life - take responsibility. Even if your situation becomes unbearable, there is always a way out. You will always have the choice to make change happen, if need be.
  6. Choose to inspire happiness for another by creating a random act of kindness and doing it. A random act of kindness is inexpensive and as easy as smiling and saying Thank You.
  7. Stop Worrying, Over-Thinking, and Stressing. Your only outcome will be loss of energy, insomnia, bad mood and a negative outlook on your life. When you feel yourself worrying and stressing, mentally shout "STOP!", take a deep breath and re-frame your thoughts by focusing on positive, action steps that you can take to improve your situation.
  8. List 5 things that you are grateful for right now
Just like Dorothy had the ability to go home - You have the ability to change your life.

Simplify Your Life: Ask for Help & Delegate

“Refusing to ask for help when you need it is refusing someone the chance to be helpful.” Ric Ocasek

Asking for help can be challenging. We can come up with all kinds of reasons to resist delegating or asking for help.

• It’s quicker if I do it myself.
• No one will do as good a job as I will.
• By the time I explain my request I may as well do it myself.

What else? What reasons or excuses do you use? Where do you resist asking for help?

Often those around you are happy to help. It is an opportunity for them to use their gifts and abilities to support you. What may be a chore for you may be easy for others.  Asking for help and delegating applies to our business life, home life, and social life!  Asking each family member or friend to cook one of the holiday dishes simply gives you all the time in the world to actually enjoy the day!  How good would that be?

Think of delegating as simplifying your life!

And Remember…..
When the task is completed, say thank-you, acknowledge that it is well-done and you appreciate the help!  Leave all criticisms at the door!

Ready to ask for help?  Decide on what specific request you will make and who you will ask.  For the next week, make at least one clear request each day and notice the difference it makes for you and those around you.

Joy Journal

Summer is the perfect time to sit back, relax and write your Joy Journal.  A Joy Journal is the perfect place to remind yourself of your daily accomplishments, moments of happiness, and the gifts you have in your life.  Getting started is easy - pick a spot where you can write uninterrupted for 10 minutes.  Sitting outside will boost your inspiration!  Jot down all the things that made you smile today or moments that encouraged your inner child to play or the gift you gave to someone else.  Focus on non-material riches to truly discover all the happiness you have in your life.

Focus on the moment, right here, right now and you will discover
an abundance of wonder and joy!
